Getting to know Dakhla
Dakhla is a remote coastal destination where desert landscapes meet a large Atlantic lagoon. It is particularly known for water sports, strong winds, seafood and unique desert-and-ocean scenery.
Located on a narrow peninsula along Morocco's southern Atlantic coast, Dakhla is best known for the calm, shallow lagoon that separates it from the open ocean, creating conditions considered among the best in the world for kitesurfing and windsurfing. The surrounding landscape is a striking mix of desert and sea, with flat sandy terrain, dunes and rocky cliffs meeting turquoise water. Wildlife such as flamingos and dolphins can often be spotted around the lagoon and coastline. Its remote, far-southern location keeps it quieter and less developed than northern coastal cities, while also making it a notable stop for travelers continuing further south or crossing into Mauritania.
